Life on the most remote inhabited island in the world

Here are one or two updated pictures of Caitlin for your viewing pleasure.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we are enjoying her!

We’ve also included some pics of the number of hand knitted items of clothing she has received from the wonderful people on the island – as you can see, the clothing takes up most of our bed, which is queen size!  We’ve had visitors pretty much every day since she was born and we have a feeling there are just going to be more coming!

We went for a walk yesterday afternoon and found some Rockhopper Penguins on the beach, which we just had to get pics of.  It was Caitlin’s first walk along the beach in her carry pack and it was really fun – even if she did sleep through the whole thing!

    Hi Erik, Claire & Caitlin

I was very pleased to find your blog. I’m a very enthusiastic friend/fan of TdC from UK. I’m a member of the TdC Association in Great Britain and in touch with a community of many similarly interested people.

Over the past few years I’ve been one of a number of outside people who’ve been dedicated to helping to get internet access for islanders. Thankfully this seems to have been now been achieved – without our help.

I’m fascinated to know what you’re all doing on the island as I assume you’re not part of one of the island families.

Happy New Year to you all!

  2. Hi Erik, Claire and Caitlin,

Thanks for creating this blog!! I am a Brazilian fascinated by this wonderful island of Tristan da Cunha! I have read many books on it and also saw a documentary made by an Italian couple (Anna Lajolo and Guido Lombardi) some years ago. I hope to visit Tristan in the future!

It would be great if an islander could create a blog too!

    Happy 2007 to you all!

    Rafael, from southern Brazil
